| Dad and I with his Demo Derby Car |
Several months back at the tender age of 40, I got the crazy idea it would be fun to start racing cars as a hobby. I have always been a big racing fan going back to 70’s thanks to my father. He helped out on some race teams, competed in demo derbies, off road racing, and most importantly took me to dirt tracks like Flemington and East Windsor. It was during those trips to the track, and those times spent in someone’s garage watching them get the car ready for race day that cemented my love of racing.
The plan was hatched after my father and I went to a race together and got to talking about getting into racing. Believe it or not, no drinking or dares were involved in the conversation, instead we actually thought it would be a fun way to spend time together.
Naturally, due to my tremendous iRacing skills, former BMX prowess, marketability, charisma, and complete lack of real world racing experience, I was given the nod as driver. My Father with his extensive real world racing experience, mechanical inclinations, and most importantly sponsorship cash is the car owner/crew chief/primary sponsor.
I decided to start this blog since I noticed the dearth of racing blogs and useful information out there for the new racer. Hopefully, by sharing my experiences I can help others avoid making the mistakes I am sure to make, and provide some helpful tips/information/insight into racing.
